Don’t get it wrong! English teaching online is so beyond English teaching! We don’t just teach grammar rules, pronunciations, sentence structures and parts of speech. We do conversations. We teach other stuff to our students too. In the process, we learn about history, culture, lifestyle and heritage.
I was on a class with a Singapore-based Korean student earlier. We were having Business-English classes. Our topic was on macro-economics: Free-Trade Zones/Foreign Trade Zones. My daughter has no school today and was right beside me (listening as usual).
When I ended the class, she said: “I thought you were teaching Economics and not English.” It was an basically an English class. Economic and business concepts, it’s jargon in the English language. Of course, it was a practice in the use of the English language to expound the student’s ideas on the topic.
